The long podcast about the Ebusco news also features my opinion and speculation about electric buses. It's right here on Substack. If you listen to some of my deepest multi-purpose electric bus podcasts on Spotify, you'll know that I think there are places where the Tesla bus will be successful. I also believe that Tesla could dominate the electric bicycle market as well. I promoted my Substack podcast in a YouTube video. In the comments, Nerobyrne commented about electric buses in Germany. Tesla News Tonight YouTube short that features the conversation: https://youtube.com/shorts/QqVDwOfwU8Q?si=EEjSSg43uedH0uB4
Here is the conversation on YouTube:
I realize that I moved the conversation straight into e-bikes. It was something I wanted to investigate, and Nerobyrne was already adamant about electric buses being all over Germany. Gigafactory Berlin is in Germany. Europe is a faster adopter of EVs. I know Tesla could dominate the electric bus market with a much more competent product. People will get off of the bus, and then pull out their e-bike to complete the rest of the trip. That's what I imagine several areas around the globe looking like. Tough times create tough people. Tough people ride bikes when they don't have enough dough. Others will get an e-bike when they see the tough people riding them. And others will like an exercise machine that they can take with them on the go. Plus, they can control their exercise with an e-bike. Pedal for exercise — electric for resting. Not to mention the e-bike fires. They can be bad and happen too often. Tesla could fix that. I also have to question if Tesla could get FSD into an e-bike. If any company could do it, it would be Tesla.
Tesla could also get the price of e-bikes down by making and manufacturing many of their own. “A shiny new one is a sign of status, and a rusty old one is a sign of poverty,” is what Nerobyrne commented about electric bicycles. Just like with cars, Tesla could start with high-margin luxury bikes before manufacturing affordable e-bikes for the majority of people.
Personally, I find it hard enough to navigate the streets because of so many dangerously terrible drivers. When I once saw a guy riding an e-bike to work, drivers showed him no respect. They came within inches of hitting him. It was almost as if those bad drivers were sending the guy on the e-bike a message, but the only message I picked up on was, “I’m a bad driver!” Seriously, I cannot wait for FSD to be level 5 and regulated. It can't happen soon enough!
Nerobyrne makes a great point about the old world. The streets there are more walkable. In my neck of the woods, it is not very walkable. In fact, on and around my block, there aren't even sidewalks. It sucks.
